Newry and Mourne Council are to send a letter of congratulations to outgoing Ulster GAA President Tom Daly. Proposing the letter Councillor Pat Mc Ginn paid tribute to Tom stating that he had shown great leadership, integrity and vision as both president of the Ulster Council and the Ulster 125 GAA Committee. Sinn Féin MP for Newry/Armagh Conor Murphy has welcomed the agreement reached at Hillsborough Castle last week. Mr Murphy who played a leading role in Sinn Féin's negotiating team throughout the talks said;
"Republicans throughout Ireland have been very patient not only over recent weeks but over recent years with regard to the vital issue of policing. A date has now finally been set for the long overdue transfer of policing and justice powers from London to Belfast. That is a major achievement and it will also be a major challenge to ensure that policing services are delivered equitably and efficiently for all communities and that the justice system is independent and fully rights-based. Sinn Fein Councillor Colman Burns has expressed his disappointment and anger at the amount of litter that is strewn along many of the roads in our district. He singled out one road in particular, the Newry to Crossmaglen road, which, he says, has been particularly badly hit. Read full article

Sinn Féin Councillor Packie McDonald has commended a South Armagh man who apprehended a burglar in Meigh during the week.
Cllr McDonald said;
"I understand that a member of the local safety group spotted two people acting suspiciously. When he checked what they were doing, they fled the scene. After apprehending one of the men he handed him over to the PSNI who arrived later. The PSNI then confirmed that a house had been broken into nearby. Read full article

Mr Murphy was speaking after a man was assaulted during the robbery of a Post Office in Dromintee this morning. Read full article

Cllr McDonald said;
