Lighting Needed at Ballymacnab Chapel - Doyle

For years Sinn Fein representatives have lobbied to have lighting erected outside Ballymmacnab chapel, unfortunately to date the campaign has not achieved the desired result. However, Sinn Fein's Cathal Boylan MLA and Armagh City and District Councillor Mary Doyle are continuing the campaign with new vigour.

Cllr. Doyle said

"There are very real dangers outside Ballymacnab Chapel, the reality is that during most of the year hundreds of people park theirs cars along this busy road, and walk a large distance to the chapel gates in the pitch dark to attend mass. With the dark comes another danger, opportunistic thieves have broken into these cars while the congregation has been attending mass, these thieves should not be given the opportunity to carry out this despicable crime.

"I have been contacted by Ballymacnab Community Association who share our concerns and I intend to work closely with them in order to resolve this problem."

"Cathal and myself have met with the parish priest and have spoken at length about the problem of no lighting. Cathal has requested a traffic count on the road outside the chapel to assess road use. Presently I am actively investigating the possibility of acquiring funding with the help of council officers. I also feel that the community safety officer in the Armagh Council has a vital role to play in assisting this project. The Safety of the people in our community is of the utmost importance to us and we will continue to work on this issue."
