Brady's Dismay at lack of 'New Build' projects announced by Social Development Minister Margaret RitchiePublished: 25 November, 2008
Sinn Féin MLA for Newry and Armagh, Mickey Brady MLA, has called on Social Development Minister, Margaret Ritchie, to act on her promise to build new affordable social housing as a matter of urgency to help the embattled Construction Industry.
"The Minister claims that she wants to build 5000 Social Housing Units in the next three years. To date the Minister has focused on buying 'off the shelf' housing, which seems that the Minister is intent on bailing Developers out, rather than focusing on getting our builders back into full time employment."
"The Minister has an opportunity to greatly cushion the impact of the slow down the construction industry.
'Making announcements; talking about future plans is well and good but people need housing - now, the construction industry needs work - now, and the quarry businesses need work - now - the Minister has got the money she demanded, so let us see some action instead of words now"
