Dispute Between Trustees and Fr Harkin Must Come to an End - Conor MurphyPublished: 27 November, 2008
Sinn Féin MP and Assembly member for Newry and Armagh, Conor Murphy has welcomed an announcement that the court hearing over the disputed land left by the late Betsy Doyle is to be held in the High Court on the 4th December.
Commenting on the matter Mr. Murphy said,
"Camlough has been designated as an area of social deprivation and this has been compounded by the current downturn in the Irish economy. This is an area so rich in community spirit and it is an indictment that there is no community centre here."
"It is unfortunate that the project to build a fit for purpose community centre has been held up by the dispute between the trustees and Fr Sean Harkin."
"It is imperative that this issue is dealt with immediately in order to attract funding from a variety of sources. In the past we have seen how this dispute can waste opportunities to gain funding and we can not let this happen again."
Mr. Murphy concluded,
"A public meeting will be held by the Camlough Community Association in the aftermath of the court case to explain the outcome and how we see the way forward."
