Public Meeting on Boundary Changes Announced

Published: 28 November, 2008

Newry and Armagh MLA, Mickey Brady has announced that there is to be a public meeting to discuss the problems with the proposed boundary changes. The meeting which is to be held in the Savoy Suite of the Canal Court Hotel at 7.30pm on 10th December will allow members of the public to come and hear the Assembly member's views on the issue and also to see his proposition on how the urban identity of Newry can be maintained.

Commenting on the event Mr. Brady said,

"The proposals from the boundary commission cannot be accepted as they stand. There is clear opposition from the people of Newry to these proposals. Almost 1000 letters have been sent to the boundary commission from Newrymen and Newrywomen who are unhappy with the breaking up of Newry."

"There is no reason for these areas of Newry to broken off and moved into rural wards. Sinn Féin has drawn up sensible suggestions which will keep the Newry entity and which is compliant with all of the boundary commission's guidelines. Our proposals will ensure that all the people of Newry benefit from our common urban interest."

"I would encourage anyone who is interested to come along to the public meeting and have their say and hear how we propose the Newry identity can be maintained."
