Belleek Regeneration Committee Begin Festive ActivitiesPublished: 10 December, 2008
The Bennett/Boyle/Cleary/Toner SF Cumman Belleek/Whitecross wishes to congratulate the Belleek Regeneration Committee on their recent festive activities which included the turning on of the Christmas tree lights in the village and a Santa Sunday for the younger members. The scenery of the village has been ameliorated by the splendid Christmas decorations and all credit must go to the Regeneration Committee and the organisers. Their tireless work on behalf of the community has reignited a sense of pride and community spirit in the area.
The large crowd that gathered in the village on Sunday 7th December despite the inclimate whether conditions is a testament to the hard work the group has put into rekindling festive and community spirit in the area. The occasion was a joyous one for all those present, with Mayor Colman Burns doing the honours of turning on the Christmas tree lights. Colman however was surpassed by the attraction of Santa who had arrived in the village to meet and greet the younger members.
SF councillor and Belleek Regeneration Committee member Jimmy Mc Creesh offered the following thanks to the committee "On behalf of the entire community I would like to extend thanks to the Belleek Regeneration Committee for the sterling effort they invested into ensuring that the Christmas lights turn on was as successful and enjoyable as possible. It was great to see both old and young alike enjoying the festivities and it is fair to say that this event has really lifted the mood in the village as we approach Christmas. The Regeneration Committee has been reinvigorated in the last few months following on from our latest AGM. We have been quietly organising different events and examining different avenues available that will allow us to implement vast advancement to this village. More and more people have made themselves available to work with the committee and it is quite obvious from the fun and festivities had by those present today that this work is paying dividends.
Belleek Regeneration Committee Chairperson, Paddy Quinn thanked Jimmy McCreesh for all his work and said,
"Today's event was a major success by all standards and we are heartened by this. However we know that in the future we plan to carry out a number of similar projects and we are confident that with the communitys support we will achieve a success conclusion."
Cllr Mc Creesh concluded by wishing all members of the community a happy and safe Christmas and New Year and called on all those in the community to lend their support to the Regeneration Committee and its future projects |
