Boylan welcomes 'carbon neutral' motionPublished: 15 December, 2008
Sinn Féin MLA and Environment committee vice Chair, Cathal Boylan, has welcomed a motion in the Assembly calling for all buildings used by the Assembly to become carbon neutral by the year 2015.
Speaking after the debate Mr. Boylan said;
'I welcome this joint motion from the DUP and the Green Party. It makes a refreshing change for the DUP to actually take a 'green' stand and raise issues like this in the Assembly as opposed to the anti-green stance usually adopted by DUP Minister Sammy Wilson.'
'The merit of this motion is to be commended and I would indeed call for all large businesses and organisations, including all Government departments, to look at what role it can play in helping our environment and working to make our places of work and living more carbon neutral.'
'It makes sense that the Assembly is seen to be taking a lead in this issue and showing an example to others. It is another small, but significant, step to reduce our carbon footprint.'
