Winter gritting at rural schools announcement welcome NewsPublished: 15 December, 2008
Sinn Féin Councillors Mary Doyle and Darren Mc Nally, have welcomed the announcement by Minister for Regional Development, Conor Murphy MP, MLA that he has agreed to examine the Roads Service operational response to areas around schools, which are regularly affected by adverse weather conditions with immediate effect.
"I asked the Minister and his Departments Roads Service to ensure that schools located in rural areas remain accessible during inclement weather conditions such as that being experienced over recent days. I welcome Minister Conor Murphy's quick response and pro-active approach to addressing this serious matter affecting many communities, but in particular those in rural areas at this time. "
Cllr. Doyle said,
"it is imperative that roads especially around schools are gritted so that our children can go to scholl safely and to prevent further loss of school days during the winter months." |
