Taxi Drivers and Publicans Cannot be Blamed for Alcohol Abuse - McNallyPublished: 17 December, 2008
Sinn Féin Councillor Darren McNally has said that the vast majority of publicans and taxi drivers are not responsible for providing teenagers with drink. This follows comments made by John Campbell at a DPP meeting on Thursday 13th.
Cllr McNally said,
"During Thursday evening's meeting Cllr. Campbell made suggestions that young people use taxis to get drink from bars at 12.00 at night. I am sure that many taxi drivers and publicans will be affronted by this insinuation. The reality is that the vast majority of publicans would not engage in this activity as it would result in them losing their licence, a risk that would also apply to taxi drivers."
"I feel that Cllr. Campbell's time would be better spent addressing the problems caused by multi national stores who have recently been exposed to be selling alcohol cheaper than water. This is where the majority of young people are obtaining alcohol |
