Regional Development Minister Extends On-Street Parking Time in Newry

Published: 12 January, 2009

Sinn Féin Regional Development Minister, Conor Murphy, has agreed and approved the amendment of the On-Street Parking Order for Newry. This will extend the permitted waiting on-street parking time to two hours. Currently people can park on-street in Newry for up to one hour.

Speaking about the proposed changes to the on-street parking order for Newry, the Minister said:
"I have listened to the requests and concerns of the traders and businesses in Newry, and indeed those of the people visiting the city. I hope that increasing the on-street parking time from one hour to two, will allow people the extra flexibility they need, whether they are visiting the city on business or to access the shops and services. I have now agreed and approved the amendments of the on-street parking order for Newry, this will now follow due process, and soon Newry will enjoy the benefits of these changes. "

The Order has been passed to the Regional Development Committee for consideration and in due course, a Notice of Intention of Making the Order will be published in the local press to allow for consultation.
