Published: 16 January, 2009

An American tourist who had been attacked in Crossmaglen in November has been welcomed back to South Armagh by the Mayor of Newry and Mourne on his return to the area. Local Sinn Féin councillors, Colman Burns, Terry Hearty and Anthony Flynn welcomed Robert Ciulla and presented him with a number of gifts on Wednesday.

The welcome had been organised by Crossmaglen councillor Terry Hearty who has been in constant contact with Mr Ciulla since the attack.

Cllr. Burns said,

"Sinn Féin felt that it was important to give Mr. Ciulla a special welcome on his return after the ordeal that he had been through on his last visit. Mr Ciulla explained that he understood that the attack was in no way reflective of the community in this area and that he was enjoying his return visit. He also told that the South Armagh was a beautiful scenice area but that the hospitality of the people here is its greatest resource."
