Bus Shelter at last

Published: 19 January, 2009

Sinn Féin Councillor Mary Doyle has stated that she is delighted that after 14 months a bus shelter has been erected at Riverdale park in Madden.

Cllr Doyle said,

"I was first contacted on 8-11-07 by concerned parents in Madden. They were concerned that although up to 15 children use the bus stop while waiting to go to St Patricks High School in Keady there is no shelter to protect them from the elements. These children have been getting soaked in the rain and snowed on in the colder conditions, on many occasions then have to sit in damp clothes while in school. As a parent of teenage children myself I completely sympathise with the worries of these parents."

"After meeting with parents I began the process by requesting the help of Operational Services in the Council. Originally we had a problem identifying a suitable site in the area but later found a site beside the Chapel. After overcoming few other problems we eventually obtained planning permission. I am now relieved that at last the children will have a shelter from the weather."

"I would like to thank Father Crawley and the officer in the council who worked so hard on this issue, processes such as this take time to get to a positive end."
