Newry and Mourne District Council meets with DOE roads and traffic branch

Sinn Féin's Charlie Casey has said that today's Multi Agency meetings attended by DOE roads and traffic branch as well as Newry and Mourne District Council have been extremely productive. The meetings took place on 3 different sites in Newry. The first site being upper Damolly road, where a number of issues were addressed including; traffic calming; illegal parking and road maintenance. The second site visit was

Stream St

where parking issues and traffic volumes were taken on board by a DOE traffic representative. The third site visit was

Domnic St

where traffic calming and weight restrictions were discussed. A meeting was then chaired by Sinn Féin's Charlie Casey in the boardroom at Council buildings in Monaghan row.

Cllr Casey said,

"Today's meetings addressed a number of issues such as: flooding at Buttercrane and

New Street

, Traffic Calming at

Mountain View Drive

and Traffic calming at Buttercrane Cottages as part of the overall scheme planned for Barcroft. Other issues addressed were the lack of proper provision for Taxis Parking issues on

Patrick St

,

Pound St

, John Martin Gardens and Michael Malin Park."

Cllr Casey also raised the concern of

Thomas St

residents who are concerned regarding a proposed retail development which would be built near their homes and has arranged a meet with the planning case office in order to relay the concerns of the residents
