COMMUNITY CENTRE VANDALISM VIEWED BY ALL AS ATTACKS ON COMMUNITYPublished: 23 February, 2009
Fews area Sinn Féin Councillor Turlough Murphy has said that the most recent vandalism at Bessbrook Community Centre is viewed by most not only as an attack on much needed community facilities, but an attack on the community in general. The local DPP member explained that a Wheelie Bin was set alight and put up against the Kitchen Door of the Centre.
Cllr Murphy said,
"It is only through good fortune that there was not more serious damage to this Centre and to the properties surrounding it. It has been the focus of mindless attacks resulting in the cause of great distress, anger, fear and cost to the ratepayer. Those engaged in these activities care little about themselves or their community and seem to be intent on destroying the vibrant local community centre. Put bluntly most of us see this not only as an attack on the Centre but also on the community".
The Councillor concluded by urging anyone with information as to the identities of those involved in this latest incident to make them known to the appropriate authorities |
