New traffic lights needed at junction of Canal St and New StPublished: 17 March, 2009
Newry City Sinn Fein Councillor Charlie Casey will be asking DOE Traffic to review the positioning of the new traffic/ pedestrian lights at the junction of Canal St./ New Street. Councillor Casey has viewed the replacement lights and is of the opinion that they are too close to the centre of the footpath thereby making it very difficult for Buggies, Double prams and people who may be visually impaired. Councillor Casey states, "I have looked closely at where they are positioned and it is my opinion that they will cause problems. They seem to be too close to the centre of the pavement and nowhere near where they were before. Do the people who place these lights not consider all the potential problems. The lights on the Convent side are placed close to a set of high steps and this will definitely cause problems for young children who walk beside the prams or buggies.I will be raising the matter at the next council meeting to ask the DOE to examine the positioning of those lights |
