PSNI domestic violence report welcomed - Murphy

Sinn Féin MP and MLA for Newry/Armagh Conor Murphy has welcomed the publication of the Poling Board's inquiry into how the PSNI should tackle domestic violence across the North.

Mr Murphy said,

"The Policing Board has now completed its inquiry into domestic violence and the recommendations have been published. They have examined all aspects of domestic violence and how the PSNI treat it."

Mr Murphy stated that here have been huge strides made by the PSNI in tackling this issue over recent years but much work still needs to be done.

"Every day there are 46 domestic violence incidents across the Six Counties. Many more go unreported and that is why this must be treated as a priority."

"Sinn Féin Policing Board members have identified a number of gaps around training and resources for instance but I am confident that the 14 recommendations emerging from this inquiry will go a long way to closing those gaps and improving, PSNI responses to domestic violence."

"It will now be the responsibility of the Policing Board to monitor the implementation and efficiency of those recommendations to ensure that the PSNI implements the best practice in relation to domestic violence."
