Fight for Madden lights continuePublished: 10 April, 2009
Sinn Féin Councillor Mary Doyle has stated that the fight to have warning lights erected in Madden will continue.
Cllr Doyle stated,
"Approximately a year and a half ago I was contacted by a resident in Madden who was concerned about the speed of traffic outside Madden GFC. There has been a number of accidents and is clear that there is a need for warning lights to be erected in order to alert traffic coming from both directions that there is sporting activity at the club and to slow down.
Councillor Doyle explained that since the issue was raised with her she has worked tirelessly to achieve this.
"I have worked with Council officials and have had many written and verbal communications, with members of Road Service at all management levels. However to date they have not agreed to install warning lights."
"The problem is still here, many people entering and leaving the grounds run the gauntlet to try to get into the grounds safely, trying to avoid the very fast oncoming traffic. This club is used by all age groups, from the very young to older people for many differing activities, they have a right to be safe while going about their business."
"Accidents continue to happen. Over the past few weeks two accidents have occurred, one just outside the gates resulting in the gates being destroyed. It is only by good luck that no child was standing nearby at that moment, or this could have resulted in a disastrous situation."
"I have very recently met with the committee of Madden GFC who are extremely concerned about the situation and want this problem resolved, the concerns of this committee must be listened to."
"I would ask the Roads Service to listen to our call for help and find a solution to this problem before any future accidents result in life changing injuries or fatalities." |
