Police behaviour at Newry Easter commemoration reported to Ombudsman

Sinn Féin DPP member Brendan Curran has said that the 'thuggish' behaviour of a member of the PSNI at Newry's Easter commemoration on Sunday has been reported to the Ombudsman's office.

A steward at the parade was pushed by a policeman while attempting to keep the road clear for the parade which had permission from the parades commission.

Cllr Curran said,

"This thuggish behaviour will not be tolerated by Sinn Féin and we will remain in regular contact with the Ombudsman's office until appropriate measures have been taken to ensure that this will not happen again."

"This policeman has held the rank of sergeant and I am alarmed that this despicable behaviour could be passed on to junior ranks."
