Transport Minister Offers Sympathies after Fatal Bus Incident in Newry

Transport Minister Conor Murphy has extended his sympathies to the family of Mrs Bridie Cookson, who died yesterday after an incident involving an Ulsterbus in the Merchants Quay area of Newry.

Speaking about the incident, the Minster said: "I would like to take this opportunity to offer my sympathies to the family of Mrs Cookson. I am saddened to hear of her death yesterday in such difficult and sudden circumstances. My thoughts remain with her family at this time."

The Minister was made aware of the incident shortly after it occurred yesterday. He has been advised that a PSNI investigation is underway and that Translink are helping the police with their enquiries. Translink will also be carrying out their own internal investigation and the Minister will be kept updated on any developments
