Newry Armagh Sinn Féin Sinn Féin -- Building an Ireland of Equals

Alarm legislation proposed

Published: 8 May, 2009

Newry Sinn Féin councillor Brendan Curran has called for legislation to ensure that when an alarm is fitted to a property it has the capability of ringing the homeowner's mobile phone when it goes off.

Cllr Curran said,

"Many alarms have a facility which enables the alarm to ring 5 phone numbers when it goes off.

"I am calling on our MLAs to bring forward legislation that will ensure that when newly fitted alarms have this technology.

Councillor Curran explained that he was making this call after an alarm at a building in

Church Street

went off last week for hours, tormenting everyone in the entire district.

Councillor Curran said,

"Although the owner of the building cannot be blamed for this situation, I feel that if the technology was available at the time it would of saved the people of the area much head ache."
