There was huge attendance yesterday at the Tí Chulainn centre Mullach Bán at an event entitled 'European Information Event with Discussions to include Farm Funding and Rural Development Funding'.

The panel - Sinn Féin's Bairbre de Brún MEP, Minister Conor Murphy MP,MLA and Cllr Terry Hearty provided the local community with information on the availability of funding grants from Europe and also addressed many questions from the audience.

Ms de Brún who has recently attended a number of public meetings in Keady, Newry and South Armagh said,

"I was delighted to once again receive such a warm reception from people in South Armagh and listen to the issues affecting the farming community here and answer some of their questions.

"Tonight's event covered a very broad range of issues; from PEACE III funding, rural development grants, renewable energy, and funding for the community and voluntary sector.

"Public events like these are extremely important for me to hear the views directly from our rural communities so that I can fight for them in the European Parliament, I intend to continue this public engagement with events across the Six Counties."

Local MP Conor Murphy thanked Ms de Brún for attending and said,

"Sinn Féin in South Armagh decided to host this event on the back of the very successful farmers' forum event last November and the public meeting which was recently hosted in Keady. These meetings were extremely well attended and a real interest was evident amongst local people in the workings of Europe, especially on how it affects the agricultural industry here.

"Bairbre has again attracted a huge crowd to Tí Chulainn and after speaking to several of those in attendance I know that they certainly enjoyed the event." Críoch
