School bus arson condemned

Newry Sinn Féin MLA Mickey Brady has condemned a 'wanton and destructive act of vandalism' at the Sacred Heart school in Newry last night.

Mr Brady said,

"A School bus has been completely destroyed following a wanton and destructive act of vandalism on the grounds of Sacred Heart Grammar School on

Ashgrove Avenue

before 11:45 last night.

The school building also sustained scorch damage in the attack.

"It is too early to speculate who was responsible for this destruction but it was indeed a sinister act on a school which provides a great service to the community.

"Thankfully fire-fighters attended the scene and extinguished the blaze before it could spread, their quick response has prevented the damage for being much worse."

Mr Brady concluded by calling on anyone with any information on the incident to come forward immediately.
