Published: 20 May, 2009

Newry Sinn Féin councillor Charlie Casey has commended the work of the Barcroft Community Association after it recently voiced its opposition to a planning application by Vodafone for a phone mast in the area.

Following a recent meeting in Dorans Hill regarding the planning application which Councillor Casey helped organise although he was unable to attend he said,

"I commend the work of the local community in Barcroft for the work that they are doing in publicising the dangers of the masts and the negative health implications that they cause.

"We have seen in other areas how a strong community can prevent these planning applications from going ahead and I have every confidence that the Barcroft community will be successful also.

Cllr Casey concluded by calling on everyone in the local community to support the community association in their work.
