Former political prisoners have a right to employment - CurranPublished: 22 May, 2009
Sinn Féin councillor Brendan Curran has condemned a ruling by the British House of Lords which decided that the Simon Community was right not to employ two former republican prisoners.
Cllr Curran who was also imprisoned during the conflict said,
"I completely condemn this decision taken by the Simon Community and the British House of Lords regarding the employment of these two men.
"These men have served there time and have been released.
"It is complete discrimination and victimisation of ex-prisoners. The people of this island, both unionist/loyalist and republicans voted in favour of the Good Friday Agreement which agreed that political prisoners on both sides of the conflict should be released. |
