Sinn Féin MP Conor Murphy has said that Sinn Féin are working to end dual mandatesPublished: 22 May, 2009
Sinn Féin MP Conor Murphy has said that Sinn Féin are working to end dual mandates.
Mr Murphy said:
"Sinn Féin are working to end dual mandates.
"It is impossible for anyone sitting in the Executive or Assembly committees to attend the British House of Commons on the same day.
"Our MPs don't of course attend sittings of the British House of Commons. So our a attendance at they Executive or Assembly does not present us with a problem.
"What we are seeing from the DUP is no more than an attempt to deflect from the revelations about the expenses claimed by Peter and Iris Robinson. We now have revelations from the SDLP leader that he claimed significant amounts of money on top of his dual mandate.
"The credibility of those who are profiting personally from their involvement in politics is why public confidence is justifiably at a low ebb. How they respond to this is for them to decide. But the public will not be fooled by distraction." ENDS |
