Dublin MEP thanks republicans of Newry and ArmaghPublished: 29 May, 2009
Sinn Féin MEP for Dublin Mary Lou McDonald has extended her gratitude to the republicans of Newry and Armagh after Sinn Féin in the area hosted a 40th Birthday party/ election fundraiser for her in the Tí Chulainn centre, Mullach Bán.
The party was attended by hundreds of republicans for across Ireland, with a particularly large attendance from Dublin, Belfast and Newry/Armagh Sinn Féin activists. The crowd enjoyed a night of music and craic as well as the most talked about highlight of the night - stand up comedian Barry McElduff MLA.
In an open letter to local Sinn Féin activists Ms McDonald said,
"Thank You
I would like to thank all the Republicans in Newry and Armagh who organised the special 40th Birthday party for myself in Mullach Bán as part of our efforts to retain the Dublin MEP seat and those who came along on the night.
The evening was a huge success and on behalf of myself, my family and the election team in Dublin can I pass on our sincere thanks and appreciation.
The night will live long in our memory.
Is Mise
Mary Lou McDonald."
Newry and Armagh MP Conor Murphy commented on the success of the night.
"Sinn Féin is the only party in Ireland to contest all EU constituencies in the country. Republican activists from Newry/Armagh are currently helping and playing their part in every one of these constituencies.
"The election fundraiser for Mary Lou was part of this Ireland-wide election campaign."
Mr Murphy concluded by wishing Mary Lou the best of luck in the election in Dublin and encourage local activists to re-elect Bairbre de Brún to the European parliament on June 4th. |
