Toxic waste dumpers motivated by greed

Published: 17 June, 2009

Slieve Gullion Sinn Féin councillor Packie McDonald has said that those who dumped potentially poisonous toxic waste in the border area of the

Dublin Road

near Killean cared little about the community. A tank of what seems to be the waste created by fuel laundering was discovered today. It is believed that around 26,000 litres of the substance was in the container which will cost almost £20,000 to clean up.

Cllr McDonald said:

"Those who roam our countryside illegally dumping their dangerous toxic waste are motivated only by greed. They care nothing about the communities where they abandon is waste.

"This was a selfish act."

Cllr McDonald added that the cost and the amount of extra working hours needed to clear up the mess and environmental hazards being created by incidents of unlawful dumping will be billed to the ratepayers of this area.

"It has been some time since this has happened and we had all hoped that this type of activity was declining. This case is a worrying development." ENDS
