Sinn Féin councillor submits petition to road service regarding poor state of roadsPublished: 18 June, 2009
At a recent meeting with Slieve Gullion Councillors and Roads Service, Sinn Féin Councillor Packie McDonald highlighted the poor state of the Dromintee Roadstating that in several places the road is 'like a rumble strip.
"This is a main road which carries a very high volume of traffic and I have called for it to be brought up to the standard which is required for heavy use."
Councillor McDonald also highlighted the overall deterioration in the maintenance of many minor roads in the area and was informed that Road Services have received an extra £1 million for road maintenance and there will soon be an improvement in the situation.
Another issue which Councillor McDonald raised was the provision of a footpath from Meigh Village to the Wood Road.
"This stretch of road is very well used by walkers and the footpath would make it much safer for them and would also improve the road alignment at a very bad corner outside the village. The local community have been campaigning for these improvements for some time and Isubmitted a petition from them calling for the footpath and road improvements to Cindy Noble of the Roads Department."
