NMDC wins national award for promoting the Irish Language

Commenting after Newry and Mourne District Council has received recognition at the prestigious BARR50 event in the Four Seasons Hotel in Dublin for its pioneering use of the Irish language Sinn Féin councillor Brendan Curran said,
"Newry and Mourne Council has set an example in promoting of the Irish language. Our Council was the first in Ireland to have a Bilingualism Policy and an Irish Language Unit.
"It is important that we continue to promote the language in every possible way, in our schools and our community organisations. It is the council who must take the lead however and Newry and Mourne has done so.
Cllr Curran concluded by congratulating all those in the council's language department who's work down the years was key to this award
