Boylan expresses concern at Credit Union finance proposal for Executive

Sinn Féin MLA for Newry and Armagh, Cathal Boylan has expressed concern that the minister for Social Development has not brought forward a proposal to the Executive from the Credit Union to invest up to £100 million into the social housing programme.
Mr. Boylan said:
"During question time in the Assembly the Finance minister said he was unaware of the current proposal by the Credit Union organisation to invest £100 million into the social housing programme, indicating that this proposal has not been brought forward to the Executive by Margaret Ritchie.
"I am very surprised that given the current economic climate and the clear demand for social housing across the north that the Minster would not have brought forward a proposal of this magnitude.
"The Credit Union organisation has already met with Margaret Ritchie in relation to this and the question that needs answered is that why has this proposal not been brought forward?
"The SDLP's Alban Maguinness stated today that there is a £100 million shortfall in the housing budget. Why is this proposal therefore being sat upon and not accessed when it could plug this gap?
"I hope that the Minister is not using this issue to play politics as thousands of people are in dire need of affordable and accessible housing."
