Hearty welcomes Rural White Paper and commends Minister Gildernew

Sinn Féin Agricultural spokesperson Terry Hearty has welcomed news from Thursday's Executive meeting that they are to recommend the proposal for a Rural White Paper from DARD Minister Michelle Gildernew.

Cllr Hearty said;

"The proposal outlined following Thursday's meeting allows for a thematic approach to the development of a Rural white Paper. Five stakeholder led sub-groups will take forward work looking at five themes: Rural Vision, Rural Governance, Rural Services, Rural People and Rural Places.

"This news will be welcomed right across the rural and agricultural sector and community. This paper, which is the first in the north, will act as a catalyst for the future development of the Minister's strategy for rural communities.

"It was also vital that the Minister's Rural Champion proposals were accepted by the Executive in order to secure cross-departmental commitment to 'rural proofing' policy.

"I commend Michelle Gildernew for her continued commitment to the development of policy for the rural and agricultural sector." CRÍOCH
