"Electoral office is currently operating a ridiculous system" - McDonald

Slieve Gullion Sinn Féin councillor, Packie McDonald has criticised the Electoral commission for its flawed policy for electoral ID applications by post.

Cllr McDonald was speaking after being contacted by an elderly constituent who had applied for and electoral ID card as she had no other photographic identification. The lady was informed that she must provide photographic ID in order for her application to be valid.

Cllr McDonald said,

"Although you do not have to produce photographic identification if you travel to the office in Banbridge: what of those who are unable to travel that far?

"The electoral office is currently operating a ridiculous system. How can it be that you must have photographic ID to apply for photographic ID?

Councillor McDonald concluded by stating that he will continue to pursue this matter until it is resolved.
