Hundreds of republicans from Newry/Armagh travel to Tyrone for national Hunger Strike rallyPublished: 17 August, 2009
Hundreds of local republicans and Sinn Féin members were among the thousands of people who gathered in Galbally, Co. Tyrone to commemorate the 28th anniversary of the hunger strike in Long Kesh.
A weekend of events had been organised in Galbally - the birthplace of Tyrone hunger striker, Martin Hurson.
Commenting after attending the rally, Newry and Armagh MLA Mickey Brady said,
"It was fantastic to see so many men, women and children from Newry/Armagh attending this year's national commemoration in Co. Tyrone.
"The organisers of the rally must also be commended for the event which featured many dramatisations along the route of the parade.
"It is important that, 28 years after the deaths of the ten hunger strikers, we continue to remember their sacrifice in such a fitting manner.
Mr Brady also paid tribute to the republican flute bands from South Armagh who took part in the commemoration
