40 years on and still no justice for John Gallagher - Boylan

Published: 17 August, 2009

Newry/Armagh Sinn Féin MLA, Cathal Boylan has said that there is still no justice for the second victim of the recent conflict, John Gallagher. Mr Boylan was commenting on the 40th anniversary of Mr. Gallagher who was murdered by the B Specials in Armagh on the 14th August 1969.

Mr Boylan said,

"John Gallagher's family have waited 40 years for justice for John's murder.

"Many people witnessed the B Specials open fire on the Civil Rights protesters in Armagh killing John Gallagher and wounding two others on the 14th August 1969.

"However there no one has been convicted of this murder.

"I am calling on the British government to re-examine this case and interview more witnesses who were present on that day. The eye witness account given by Fr Damien McKenna in the 'Irish News' suggests that there is much more evidence available than was suggested in the original tribunal."
