Sinn Féin assembly member for Newry/Armagh, Mickey Brady has voiced his disappointed after the Parades commission has given permission for a loyalist band parade in Newry. The parade organised by the South Down Defenders will take place on Friday 28th August.
Commenting on the decision Mr. Brady said,
"I am extremely disappointed in the Parade Commission's decision as there has been a complete lack of consultation with the local residents who will become virtual prisoners in their own homes as this parade takes place.
"Residents have also raised concerns that the main roads around their homes will be blocked off for 3-4 hours.
Mr Brady added that considerable police resources will be used during the parade at a time when the policing budget is already being squeezed
