Sinn Féin MP for Newry and Armagh Conor Murphy has welcomed reports that Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann are considering holding this year's Fleadh Cheoil in the Six Counties - the first time in the 59 year history of the event.

Commenting on the reports Mr Murphy said;

"Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann is a huge festival which attracts musicians from all over the world in the spirit of cultural expression and enjoyment.

"In the current economic climate this festival has the potential to bring thousands of visitors to this part of Ireland. Irish culture and our music is enjoyed and all over the world; I have no doubt that this Fleadh would highlight some of the brilliant talent being nurtured by Comhaltas.

"I would encourage the organisers of Fleadh Cheoil to look towards this part of Ireland and allow us the same opportunity to enjoy this magnificent event
