Viable device found near Forkhill, South ArmaghPublished: 8 September, 2009
Sinn Féin MP for Newry/Armagh, Conor Murphy has condemned those responsible for planting a viable device on the Carrive Rd in South Armagh.
Mr. Murphy said,
"I understand that a 600lb viable device has been discovered on the Carrive Rd near Forkhill.
"A number of families have been evacuated from their homes while the device is being dealt with.
"I am extremely concerned that this device was left near a home. This created a serious risk to lives of those who live nearby.
"Last year a bomb was discovered in Jonesborough by local children, other bombs were left near schools in armagh city while a recent publicity stunt could have led to a shoot out in meigh village.
"There is an increasing recklessness being shown by these groups and if they persist with this activity it will be only a matter of time before a someone in the local community is killed.
"I would question the motives of those who are putting the local community in such danger.
"I challenge those who have planted this bomb in the community to come forward and explain why they have done so? How is this furthering the struggle for Irish freedom?
"They represent no one and have no support from the people in this area." |
