Boylan reveals NIW plans for Newry and Armagh

As a member of the Assembly Regional Development Committee, Cathal Boylan has been updated on various projects being undertaken by NIW throughout the Newry and Armagh constituency.

'Among the various works being carried out are the upgrades of Seagahan and Hamiltonsbawn water treatment plants, and improvements to existing works at Crossmaglen.

The main street in Laurelvale will be getting sewage replacements and upgrades, whilst the Camlough roundabout and Newry by-pass will see new and replacement watermain framework as well as upgrades. Also in the area there will be a laying of gravity sewer from the Cambrook and Church View pumping station connecting into the Bessbrook Sewerage gravity network.

In the Newry area there will be Sewage Network Improvements, a Storm Sewer extension at the Abbey Grammar School, whilst there will be upgrades at Charlotte Street and Newry Road, Warrenpoint to address the issue of sewer flooding.'

The Sinn Féin MLA continued;

'In addition to these locally based projects, Newry and Armagh will also be included in a pre inspection programme for Service Reservoir rehabilitation throughout the North as well as availing of priority upgrades of Small Waste Water treatment plants.

I am pleased to see that NIW are continuing to commit substantial resources within the constituency and hope this forward work planning delivers benefits to the consumer of this essential service.'

Speaking about the NIW PC10 Business Plan for the next three years, 2010-2013, Mr. Boylan said;

'PC10 will replace the Strategic Business Plan which the company has been following since April 2007. Once agreed by the Utility Regulator, it will determine NIW's priorities and the funding needed to deliver them. Subject to PC10 being agreed and implemented and the availability of funding, longer term plans for Newry and Armagh include upgrades to Mullaghbane and Forkhill Wastewater Treatment Works, Tullyhappy and Crieve Service Reserviors, the Castor Bay to Newry Trunk Main, (Phase 1) and a review of the Armagh Drainage Area Plan.
