MEP's call for more support for the Dairy industry welcomed - Hearty

Sinn Féin agricultural spokesperson Terry Hearty has welcomed calls by Bairbre de Brún MEP for more support for the struggling dairy sector.

Ms de Brún was speaking after MEPs in Strasbourg recently adopted a resolution calling for more concrete action from the European Commission to help ease the burden on dairy farmers.

Cllr Hearty said:

"The crux of the matter remains the huge discrepancy between what consumers are paying for dairy products and what the farmer is receiving for his produce. The longer this situation is allowed to continue the deeper the problems in our dairy industry will grow."

"Sinn Féin MEP Bairbre de Brún has already raised this issue directly with the European Commission and I now welcome the fact that the majority of MEPs are sending the Commission the same message."
