Local MLA tests out public transportPublished: 12 October, 2009
Cathal Boylan, MLA for Newry and Armagh, was one of a number of representatives of the Assembly's DRD Committee to take up the challenge of travelling to work by public transport last Wednesday.
This involved the local Sinn Féin representative travelling by bus from his home town of Keady to Armagh, where he transferred to a bus to Belfast before walking on foot to the City Hall where he got a further bus to Stormont.
'I felt it important that I take this challenge to see for myself, as a member of the DRD Committee, what it is like for commuters on a daily basis who travel to work by public transport. I must say I was impressed by the smooth operational procedures employed by both Ulsterbus and Translink. The feeling within the Committee was that our public transport operators are doing a good job and whilst it may not be the right mode of transport for everyone, we would certainly encourage more use of the public transport network |
