Translink vandalism threatens bus service in NewtownPublished: 12 October, 2009
Sinn Féin Cllr Jimmy McCreesh has said that public bus services in Newtownhamilton could be withdrawn if vandalism of the buses continues. Cllr McCreesh made the comments after two buses had their windscreens smashed over the weekend.
Commenting on the situation Cllr McCreesh said;
"Over the weekend vandals smashed the windscreens on two Translink buses causing over £1,000 of damage. This is the second time in five weeks that this has happened.
"I would call on those responsible for this pointless and damaging behaviour to desist from this activity. If this vandalism continues the service may have to be withdrawn from the area. The only people that will suffer are the local community.
Cllr McCreesh also called on the local community to be vigilant.
"Anyone who sees anyone attempting to damage the buses should report it immediately. This anti-community behaviour cannot be allowed to continue."
