Sinn Féin councillor Packie McDonald has welcomed an announcement by Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy that the new flyover at Cloghogue roundabout will be opened over the Christmas period in order to alleviate traffic congestion.

Mr Murphy made the announcement in response to a question asked by Cllr McDonald at a liaison committee meeting the Council offices.

Commenting on the news Cllr McDonald said;

"Traffic congestion in this area was particularly bad last Christmas with the huge influx of shoppers from the South . The effect of that extra traffic was felt most strongly at Cloghogue roundabout.

"At today's meeting I suggested to Minister Conor Murphy that the new flyover be opened over the Christmas period in order to alleviate this traffic.

"I am delighted that he has agreed to open the flyover from early December right through the Christmas period. I understand that it must close again for a short period after Christmas as there is more work to be completed.

Cllr McDonald concluded by stating that this announcement will be welcomed by residents, road users, traders and the wider comunity in the area.
