Boylan disappointed that DCAL Minister refuses reception for Armagh MinorsPublished: 19 October, 2009
Sinn Féin MLA for Newry/Armagh Cathal Boylan, has voiced his disappointment that Culture, Arts and Leisure Minister, Nelson McCausland has refused to extend an invitation of a reception to the Armagh Minor All Ireland GAA Football winners which the Sinn Féin Assembly member had requested.
'I sent a letter to the Minister immediately after the Armagh Minor team's historical victory. DUP Minister, Nelson McCausland, has now replied stating, basically, that not everyone can be given a reception and that he has sent a letter to the management of the winning team congratulating them.'
'I find this reply deeply disappointing, since the Armagh Senior Football teams win in 2002, there has been a precedent set by subsequent DCAL Ministers, and even Direct Rule Ministers, to honour teams which win major All Ireland titles a reception at Stormont.'
'I believe Nelson McCausland's response continues to highlight his deeply held anti GAA bias. We shall strive to ensure the Armagh Minor team, players and management, are afforded a reception at Stormont to honour their tremendous achievement.'
