Sinn Féin MLA for Newry/Armagh, Mickey Brady has today met with the manager of the Quays, Cathal Austin, in order to raise the concerns of constituents regarding the introduction of parking charges at the Newry shopping centre.

Speaking after the meeting Mr. Brady said;

"The Sinn Féin office in Newry has been inundated all week with calls from residents, shoppers and road users who are concerned about the introduction of toll booths at the Quays' car park.

"I voiced these concerns with the manager of the Quays at today's meeting.

"I told him that these charges have caused great frustration among people who regularly use the shopping centre. I also explained that many residents are worried that shoppers who are unwilling to pay the charges will park in the nearby streets causing great inconvenience to the local population.

"While I accept that this may be a trial stage for the charges - the real problems will arise will arise during the hectic Christmas period.

"I will continue to pursue this issue and will meet with representatives from Parker Green on Wednesday."

Mr. Brady also concluded by stating that he will also meet with Roads Service in the near future.
