Community asked to support survey for Crossmaglen allotments - Hearty

Crossmaglen Sinn Féin councillor, Terry Hearty, has called for the community in the town to support a Council survey which will research the need for allotments locally.

Cllr Hearty said;

"After speaking to many people in Crossmaglen with an interest in gardening, I requested that the Council invest in allotments for the town. These allotments could be rented by local residents in order to grow fruit and vegetables, for personal and family use.

"We have subsequently sighted a piece of land within the town boundary which would be suitable for such a project.

"The Council will now carry out a survey in the area in order to gauge the support for the building of these allotments.

"I would ask those surveyed to support the project as there are numerous benefits which allotments would bring to Crossmaglen.

"They would provide a cheap source of fresh fruit and vegetables for families. They would also provide people with an opportunity to spend time outside enjoying nature.

Cllr Hearty said that it has been shown by many similar projects throughout Ireland that they can help enhance community spirit and offer an opportunity to meet and socialise with people who have similar interests.
