All Island Road Safety initiative welcomed

Sinn Fein road safety spokesperson Cathal Boylan has welcomed the new

measures to be introduced across the island that will enhance the safety of

road users.

Mr. Boylan was speaking after news that driver disqualification

will be recognised across the island.

'Once again we can see that it makes sense for Road Safety to be looked at on an all island basis. Disqualified drivers will no longer be able to carry on driving on one side of the invisible border whilst being banned on the other.'

'This means that those drivers who have lost their licence due to drink or drug driving and dangerous driving will have that punishment enforced throughout Ireland. That can only be good news for the safety of other road users and pedestrians
