Sinn Féin encourage opportunity for voters to get on Electoral RegisterPublished: 11 January, 2010
Cathal Boylan, Sinn Féin MLA for Newry and Armagh, has urged those eligible to vote to be aware of a pilot scheme the Electoral Office is running in Armagh City for a six week period. This can be accessed by all eligible individuals from throughout the Constituency.
'Each Thursday, between 14th January, until the 18th February, the Electoral Office will have a 'Sub Office' based in the Viking Room of St Patricks Trian, English Street, Armagh, between 12.30pm and 4.30pm. This will enable people who are not currently on the Electoral Register to be able to do so, and those who wish to obtain Electoral Identification Cards to avail of the opportunity to do so as well.'
'With the likelihood of a General Election to take place within the coming months, I would urge everyone who either is not registered or needs Identification to take the opportunity to visit these workshops. Remember, if you are not registered or have no ID, then you will be unable to vote in the upcoming or any future elections. It is your right to vote - do not lose that right by not being registered or having no ID.'
'It is also worth bearing in mind that it is now an offence not to be registered which can result in a fine of up to £1000, and that is something no one wants. It is also very hard to get credit arrangements such as a Bank loan if you are not on the register. It makes sense to be registered, so use the opportunity to do while this team is in the City.'
'The main divisional Electoral Office in Banbridge will also be open late, until 7.30pm, each Thursday between the same dates. |
