Call for people to ensure they are registered to vote

Slieve Gullion Sinn Fein councillor Terry Hearty has called on residents in Crossmaglen and the Slieve Gullion area to ensure that they are registered to vote.

Cllr Hearty said:

"Members of the electorate should remember that it is now illegal not to be registered to vote.

"Those who are not registered face the prospect of a fine.

"Sinn Féin in the Slieve Gullion area are currently canvassing all houses and supplying residents with the necessary registration forms.

"Regardless of their political affiliations, I would advise everybody to ensure that they are registered to vote.

"Young people can register as soon as they are seventeen as they are entitled to vote as soon as turn 18.

"I would recommend that people take the opportunity and register as soon as they can."
