Council to produce booklet which will inform residents on how their rates are spent

Sinn Féin council leader Jimmy McCreesh has welcomed an agreement by the Council to publish a booklet which will detail exactly what the rates will contribute to the community in this area. The booklet will be distributed to all homes in the district.

Cllr McCreesh said;

"Sinn Féin councillors proposed that a booklet be produced which would inform the people of Newry and Mourne of how their rates are spent.

"We believe that this will make Council matters more open and transparent.

"It seems now that the rates will be struck at an increase of 3.1%. Our councillors fought extremely hard over the past weeks to ensure that the rates were kept as low as possible while ensuring that the council provides a first class service to our communities."
