Public Meeting - Quarry at Navan FortPublished: 26 April, 2010
The meeting was attended by local Councillor Cathy Rafferty, The Minister for Regional Development, Conor Murphy, and local MLA Cathal Boylan
Speaking after the event Councillor Rafferty explained that this was a preliminary meeting to find out what could be done about the danger posed by the quarry.
"This meeting was arranged following the latest drowning incident at the quarry. Some lasting solution must be found to remove this public danger and this meeting was held to find out what the public thoughts were on the matter.
"There were many ideas put forward but the general consensus is that draining and filling the quarry would be the best solution. I am going to look into how this might be progressed and will be reporting back to the community.
Cathal Boylan also added his thoughts, "We simply cannot allow anyone else to suffer this fate. There have been too many families in this area to loose a loved one in these terrible circumstances. Sinn Fein is determined that there will be no more drownings in this quarry" |
